Andrew Mcdow

Food & Beverage Manager

As the Food and Beverage Director at Le Cap Hotel in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Andrew McDow is thrilled to lead the opening of the hotel and its restaurant, île, alongside Chef Cameron Armstrong.

Andrew’s passion for artisanal craftsmanship and storytelling shapes his approach to hospitality. From wines that capture an exceptional growing season to lobster served in custom-crafted bowls and locally curated art, each detail reflects Cape Breton’s rugged landscape. “Everything inspired by our landscape should be mirrored in the dining room, on your plate, and in your glass,” he says, inviting guests to experience this rich culture and history.

Before joining Le Cap, Andrew refined his craft at Poly in Sydney, Australia, known for its natural wine and innovative cuisine, and at Sager and Wilde in East London, awarded Best International Restaurant Bar during his tenure. Originally from Halifax, he began as a cocktail bartender in Canada, quickly rising in the industry through awards and collaborations before gaining international experience.

Now back on the East Coast, Andrew focuses on low-intervention wines that complement île’s hyper-local menu, emphasizing sustainable methods. His vision celebrates Cape Breton’s terroir, connecting wine, food, and place in a way that honours the land’s natural beauty.
